An Experience to Remember at Folly Foot

The Hummingbird Centre every now and again like to share what we do for our guests.

With the help of 2 of our sponsors Alpha Cars and The Nightingale Pub, Bicester, we recently sent 10 of our guests away to a retreat working with horses called Folly Foot near the village of Radnage in Buckinghamshire. It was a therapeutic day spent working with horses and each other, enabling our guests to build on their confidence and trusting the group that they were working with. Sharing stories, fears, experiences and understanding that they are not alone.

Animals have an inner sense that pick up on people's emotions and this became apparent from the day.

We would like to share some of the comments made from our guests on the day:

“It was a great day, doing things I had never done before.”

“I really like the interaction with other people that have been on the same journey”

“I valued time away from my day to day environment and tasks, valued some time for me.”

“Really valued sharing with the group and learning and listening to others’ experience. Has helped me to think about my journey and what I need to do to process it effectively.”

“Supportive atmosphere to share concerns and fears, good opportunity to talk to others in a similar position”
“Came with no expectations, left feeling uplifted and quite emotional”

“Loved the horses!”

The Hummingbird Centre will be sending more of our guests to Folly Foot in the New Year.

Who Sponsors Visit The Hummingbird Centre

Earlier in the year The Hummingbird Centre where awarded a grant by Santander. This enabled us to do a lot of work within the centre which was needed to benefit our guests this month a cheque was presented in the sum of £5000 and it was great for them to come along to the Centre meet some of our guests and the team.

The grant enabled us to re-carpet the whole of the building provided by a local carpet company Maskell Flooring – we’ve also used what was left to purchase two new chairs for the Counselling Room.

Natasha Harding from Webmart presented us with a cheque in the sum of £250.00 – Natasha chose The Hummingbird Centre as her local charity to which Webmart support their staff by making a donation on behalf of the employee for the nomination.  Natasha came and spent some time with our guests, which The Hummingbird Centre actively encourage their supporters to do so they can see what the monies will be used for.
