We Are Supported In So Many Ways …….

Raising funds for The Hummingbird Centre is always a challenge and each year we have to raise just over £90,000 to keep the centre running.

Support comes to us in so many ways from the Community of Bicester, surrounding villages and further afield, we just wanted to share with you some of the stories that we’ve had over the last couple of weeks in May.

One of our very own Therapists Takes on a Challenge

We would like to wish one of our very own Hummingbirds, Lucinda, all the very best for tomorrow as she runs 70 miles on mountainous terrain raising money for the centre in the Mozart 100 – Lucinda completed 60 miles of the challenge until her knee gave way, even then she continued and completed the race.

An Inspiring Dad

As a very active Dad who has run numerous races from 5k to half marathons, I wanted new challenges with my fitness and ones that enabled me to do it with my 1-year old son. After getting special permission from UK Athletics I will be running Leamington Spa Half marathon whilst pushing my little boy in his running buggy.

We have previously done Parkrun’s and Blenheim 10k together. Blenheim was a hilly route and controlling the buggy downhill was an experience. This didn’t bother Rowan who laughed going around most of the course.

After asking online for local charity suggestions it was hard to choose just 1 so I have chosen 4 very worthy causes. The work that they do isn’t always well known but is immeasurable to the people they help. The charities are as follows:-

The Hummingbird Centre (Cancer charity)
Alexander House of joy (Disability charity)
Clean Slate (Domestic Abuse charity)
Bicester Good Neighbour Scheme (Helping the elderly and those in need)

All charities are very helpful, and I can’t wait to help them out using my fitness and father and son time to make lives better for years to come.

For the last 5 years, we have been very fortunate to be supported by a team of cyclists who have entered the Extra Mile Challenges raising money on behalf of The Hummingbird Centre. Last September was the Auvergne Challenge, covering over 500 miles in 3 days in the centre of France.

September 2019 they have entered the “Flanders Challenge”– we will post more details nearer the time.

Pictured are the team : Paul Harris, David Kita, Kevin Perryman & Anthony Priestnall – the Auvergne Challenge raised a fantastic £3427 for us – in 5 years the team have raised over £12500
