Golfers are being invited to tee off for charity, help raise vital funds and celebrate at the 19th hole as The Hummingbird Centre brings back its popular golf day.
For the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Launton-based cancer support charity will host its charity golf day, with registration now open.
Teams of four are being encouraged to sign up for the event, which will take place at Kirtlington Golf Club, near Bicester, on Friday, May 15.
All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting The Hummingbird Centre’s work helping people with cancer and their families across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
The day will begin with tea, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, followed by an 18-hole Stableford competition, including longest drive and nearest-the-pin contests. After the golf, players will enjoy lunch, a prize presentation, raffle and auction.
Event organiser Paul Harris, a trustee of The Hummingbird Centre, said: “I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday – enjoying a round of golf, sharing lunch and helping to raise money for a very worthy charity.
“We are really excited to be bringing the golf day back. The last time we held this event was before COVID-19 and so many people have asked us to revive it – so here it is.
“We’re looking for teams of four to sign up for £250, with a reduced price available for full members of Kirtlington Golf Club. We are also looking for businesses or individuals to sponsor holes at £100 each.
“The event was really popular in the past, so I’d encourage people to sign up quickly. It promises to be a lot of fun, with a little friendly competition and, will help us raise vital funds for a truly worthwhile charity.”
Gary Quainton, Golf & Pro Shop Manager at Kirtlington Golf Club, which is supporting the event, said the venue is looking forward to welcoming the charity back for another memorable day.
“This will be the third time The Hummingbird Centre has hosted their golf day here, and it’s always a fantastic occasion with a great atmosphere,” he said, “The day is a wonderful chance to meet new people, enjoy the course and, with it taking place on a Friday, it’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend. The team Stableford format — with the best two scores from four counting on each hole — keeps everyone involved and gives every player the opportunity to contribute to the team’s score.
“We’re delighted that the Hummingbird Charity are returning to Kirtlington Golf Club for what promises to be a highly enjoyable day.”
