Golfers quite literally swung into action and raised £8,100 for a cancer support charity. Twenty-two teams, made up of 88 players, teed off last month at Kirtlington Golf Club, near Bicester, for a day of golf, competition and fundraising for The Hummingbird Centre.
Teams of four competed in an 18-hole Stableford competition and battled for accolades including longest drive and nearest-the-pin challenges.
Following the competition, players enjoyed lunch, prize presentation, raffle and auction to boost the fund raising.
Organised by Paul Harris, a trustee of The Hummingbird Centre, he said the money supports the centre’s vital work, helping people with cancer and their families across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
Paul said: “It was great to see so many golfers come together, not only to enjoy a day on the course but also to make a real difference to the charity. The atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic. We’d like to thank all the players, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who helped make the event such a success.”
The event marked the return of the charity’s golf day held for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gary Quainton, Golf & Pro Shop Manager at Kirtlington Golf Club, which supported the event, said: “We were delighted to support such a fantastic event. The generosity shown by everyone involved was incredible, and to raise more than £8,000 for such a worthwhile cause is a tremendous achievement.”
