I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer in November 2022 at the age of 32. With no family history it was a shock for us all. I started chemotherapy shortly after, completing 16 rounds, alongside 17 rounds of immunotherapy, 15 rounds of radiotherapy and surgery. I received the all clear in June 2023.
Unfortunately, in December 2023 it was confirmed that the cancer had returned in my bones and I was now classified as Stage 4. It was devastating time once again and I have been back on treatment ever since.
The Hummingbird Centre have been there for me throughout it all. I started at the centre only a few weeks after being initially diagnosed and they have helped and supported me for the past 20 months. Whether that’s counselling for myself or my family, holistic treatments, yoga or mindfulness they have supported me immensely. The friends I have made at the centre I will cherish forever.
I’ve always wanted to give back as part of my cancer journey and since June 2023 we have done a number of fundraising activities to raise awareness and money for The Hummingbird Centre as well as breast cancer charities. This has included shaving my hair, a sponsored silence, a 100km bike ride, 100km walking challenge and a 7km run, with my friends and family alongside me.
I’m really proud that the money we’ve raised is going towards the children’s centre. I have a 3-year-old daughter, and knowing that the support is available for her when she needs it takes a huge weight off my mind.
I’m hugely grateful for everything The Hummingbird Centre have done and I hope that the money raised will make a difference.
